Cambridge Days Ukraine 2021: Scientists Philologists Study Innovative Technologies of Online Learning

The academic staff of Faculty of Humanities of Poltava Polytechnic actively participated at the international scientific and practical conference Cambridge Days Ukraine 2021. Experts of Cambridge Assessment English and Cambridge University Press, specialists of the “Linguist” company from many parts of the world discussed effective innovative technologies and the problems of motivation for studying during the pandemic.

The academicians of Faculty of Humanities of National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”, Doctor of Philology, Professor of Germanic Philology and Translation Department Tetiana Kushnirova, PhD in Philology, Associate Professor of Germanic Philology and Translation Department Anna Pavelieva and Teacher of Germanic Philology and Translation Department Svitlana Manhura took part in the annual conference Cambridge Days Ukraine 2021. During three working days, the scientists of Poltava Polytechnic attended six webinars, in which they discussed the practical experience of developing linguistic education during the pandemic, the conditions of forming positive motivation to studying, and the ways to involve young audience in constructive dialog during classes together with the experts of Cambridge University and practicing specialists.

Teachers of Germanic Philology and Translation Department of our university received new practical experience, skills and inspiration that will help achieve better results during online teaching and be useful in their own professional development.

The program of the three-day conference included visiting webinars on the following topics:

  • How bringing life to lessons brings lessons to life!” by Matthew Elman;
  • A fresh approach to online self-access materials: A2 Key for Schools, B1 Preliminary for Schools, B2 First for Schools” by Dr. Miranda Hamilton;
  • Technology in Classroom” by Dr. Hisham AlSaghbini;
  • Taking teenage learners seriously” by Herbert Puchta;
  • The Importance of Stories in Teaching Young Learners” by Herbert Puchta;
  • Practical tips to introduce and revise vocabulary at Pre A1 & A1 Levels online and offline” by Sarah Ellis.

The scientists will certainly realize the received knowledge in their teaching activity.

“Distanced work does not stop our philology teachers from self-development and self-improvement; quite the opposite - there has been a lot of conferences, webinars, courses for teachers during the lockdown, focused on the methods of teaching foreign languages online. So, we yet again joined the scientific events, linguistic workshops to learn something new, exchange experience, and borrow the best experience of our colleagues from different countries,” Doctor of Philology, Professor of Germanic Philology and Translation Department at National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” Tetiana Kushnirova commented.

In January, philologists of Polytechnic attended the webinar of experienced specialist, Chief Education Manager of Cambridge English Language Assessment Sarah Ellis, focused on the preparation for exams.
